Handwoven cushion cover made with Cypriot wool. As there is no spinning industry in Cyprus, the wool is used in its raw form and is inwoven with brown threads to form an abstract landscape design. Brown wool from the legs and snout of sheep contrast the light coloured areas of the design.

I have chosen to use wool for two reasons; firstly because it is a lovely natural material and secondly because I want to continue using Cypriot wool locally as it has been done since archaic times. Hand-spun wool was turned into winter bed sheets until some decades ago but unfortunately its use has been discontinued.
